What is a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle?
Certified Pre-Owned, or “CPO” for short,
is a pre-owned vehicle that has been “certified”
by passing an inspection checklist established by the
manufacture. These vehicles offer warranties backed
by the manufacture that extend beyond the initial factory
warranty. The sale of CPO vehicles has drastically increased
over the past several years as they have become affordable
alternative to new cars.
Not all used vehicles qualify for certified pre-owned
programs. Although programs vary from brand to brand,
true certified pre-owned programs usually include at
least a 100-point vehicle inspection. If a problem is
uncovered, the car is either repaired by a factory-trained
technician or disqualified from the program.
What are the Advantages of a Certified Pre-Owned
Vehicle?
There are many advantages to selecting a certified pre-owned
vehicle over a regular used car. The manufacture stands
behind the certified pre-owned vehicle by offering an
extended warranty beyond the factory warranty. The vehicle
has undergone a multi-step inspection with necessary
repairs performed. And often times the manufactures
CPO program provides consumer with low interest loans
or lease programs and exchange policies. But probably
the best argument for purchasing a CPO vehicle is the
cost savings over a new vehicle. Most new vehicles depreciate
approximately 20% per year, making the choice of a certified
pre-owned vehicle a wise financial decision.
